5 Reasons You Should Have a Mimosa Bar at your Next Soiree

If you’ve ever searched Pinterest for party-planning ideas, I’m sure you’ve come across a pin about a food or drink "bar"-the kind where the host provides all of the individual components for some food or drink (i.e. tacos, waffles, ice cream sundaes, mimosas) and guests are expected to build their own creation.

I'm a huge fan of this popular party idea and, in December, I set up a mimosa bar for my guests at a party I hosted in my apartment. The theme was "Mistletoe & Mimosas" so it was only right that the bubbly bar was the star of the evening. Keep reading to find out how a mimosa/prosecco bar could spice up your next get together and 5 reasons why you need to hop on this trend.

1. It’s easy!

When you throw a party, your to-do list is about a mile long. But trust me...setting up a mimosa bar is simple and not very time-consuming. All you have to purchase are a few bottles of sparkling wine and a few bottles of juice. If you want to take things up a notch you can even buy fruit that guests can use as garnish or fancy cups and straws to make it festive.

2. It can help you keep costs down

Throwing a party doesn't have to be expensive but what often puts hosts over their budget is the cost of the alcohol because they’re trying to stock their bar with a wide variety of spirits to appeal to their guests. The only real way to avoid a high alcohol bill is to have your guests BYOB. However, you never know what people will bring or what types of mixers you might need for said bottles. And then, worst of all, you’re stuck with a bunch of crap you’ll never drink that you’re forced to re-gift to someone...or is that just me?

With a mimosa bar, you only need to provide sparkling wine and juice...that’s it. And because there’s such a wide-variety of champagne brands, there’s a bottle to fit every budget. You can splurge on Clicquot or find bottles of bubbly for about $5 each at Trader Joe's Wine Shop.

3. No more FOMO-You can set it and forget it

As someone who enjoys hosting parties, I know how difficult it can be to be both a social, engaged host while also being attentive to replenishing your food and beverages if you don’t have the luxury of having waitstaff or bartenders. With a mimosa bar, you get to be more available because people are the masters of their own concoctions and can pour on their own.

4. Guests are their own mixologists

This is a simple way to cater to the variety of tastes at your party. Because your guests will be mixing their own drinks, they are creating their own cocktail adventure, allowing them the freedom to pour as much or as little alcohol as they’d like. Additionally, by providing a variety of juices as mixers, the combinations will be endless as guests can blend juices to create their own unique mixes.

5. It’s adaptable to any theme

Whether you’re planning a Vegas-themed bridal shower brunch or a birthday party with no theme, the mimosa bar lends itself to any celebration because you can use the accessories (i.e. cups, straws, signage, labels, etc.) to complement or carry the theme.

To celebrate my mom’s 59th birthday, I set up a prosecco bar for her and her guests. She didn’t have a specific theme but I was able to select accessories for the bar based on the party colors, which in this case were rose gold and navy. This is a great example of how a prosecco bar can add to and elevate your decor.

Allowing your guests to choose their own adventure is fun! And when executed the right way, it’ll make your next party a memorable one. Are you convinced yet?

Here are all the things you need to set up your own mimosa or prosecco bar:

  • bottles of champagne/prosecco/sparkling wine

  • bottles of juices or fruit nectars

  • carafes/pitchers for juices

  • champagne flutes (plastic ones are just fine)

  • cut up fruit for garnish (optional)

  • cute bowls and/or containers for fruit garnish (optional)

  • decorative paper straws (optional)

  • signage/labels to clearly mark all the different components so guests are not confused
